MY TALL SHIPS RACE JOURNAL DAY 11 – (14/07/2015) – Engines on, pearlescent seas and arrival in beautiful Norway

Aloft

Well the inevitable happened at 11:45 pm last night – the engines were fired up!  It is sad that we have had to retire from the race when we were so close to finishing but the wind has been against us.  It was noisy when the engines were first fired up and there is a definite mechanical vibration through the ship in comparison to the feeling of being just under sail.  Having the engines on makes the ship have a hurried feeling, like we are rushing to get somewhere rather than going where the wind blows.  The vibration of the engines was enough to flare the pain in my foot so it took ages to get back to sleep. MY TALL SHIPS RACE JOURNAL DAY 6 – (09/07/2015) – St Kilda and the many faced Islands, panic about depth, mixed feelings, and more St Kilda!

St-Kilda-1

St Kilda at 9 pm on Wednesday 8th July

This was another entry recorded on my phone as I still cannot keep my body from feeling queasy when I write.  I have to laugh though as I certainly must have been losing my mind at this point of the voyage as this is what the recording for today starts with –

“I think it is day six.”

[Pause]

“I think it’s Thursday.”

[Pause]

“I don’t know what date it is”

[Even longer pause]

“I think it’s the 9th July.”

“Ha, it has only taken me 24 seconds to figure out what day we are on.  Being at sea does that to you!”

Unlock the Mind

I decided to join up with the Writing 101 course to help develop my skills in blogging.  I want to learn a bit more, want to improve on my writing skills and share my work with like minded others.  Due to being busy I have only just read the first email that came through from Writing 101 and it was about free writing for 20 minutes.  Mind block already.  Continue reading

Dawn – It is a crescendo of musical delight

A Crescendo of Musical Delight

I find dawn to be a most magical part of the day.

The moment where the deepest, darkest night slowly eases itself into daylight.

The moment where the bitter cold of the last hour before dawn slowly increases in temperature as the light intensifies.

All this brings the world to life from the deep, dark silence that exists through the night.

Little flurries of activity from animals and birds alike.

Up with the dawn!

As the light intensifies and the temperature rises so do the birds.

It only takes one to start the song then the rest join in – blackbirds, thrushes, sparrows, crows, wood pigeons, doves – plus many, many more.

The dawn chorus – such a wonderful musical accompaniment to bring in the new day ahead.

It is a crescendo of musical delight!AAA-Signature
